I was inspired by (the all knowing bearded one!) Brian in making video game console chicks and decided to do a NES girl. She's a controller and her chair is one also. This is just a quick sketch. Don't mind Toon Link i was going to replace him with an 8bit link, but the empty space irked me so i just put him there, Anyone have any suggestions? What i could do to jazz this up before i ink and color?

SEASON OF THE ANIMATIC!

In the effort to becoming a better artist and story teller i will try and post a full colored animatic every week and a half. This will be really hard. I know the first couple of tries will be horrible, and i may miss my own deadlines but i will learn story telling, character designing, editing, how to get directly to the point of the story with out extra unnecessary stuff and much much more.

Wish me luck on what could be the worse idea i have had yet, or the best idea ever. Who knows of all the animatic's I'm doing one could very well be a potential short. Right now i know i can't dedicate the time needed to make a short the way i want too. All of my failed attempts made me realize this. So sometime within the week after next i should have my very first Animatic! How exciting. Now to come up with an idea.....

Just playing around with some art. I did a sketch a ways back and decided to add some color. It feels good to just draw. It's missing something though.... maybe a design on the shirt.... I don't know.... i think i will never know. I don't like to go backwards with art..........I just got it! If i put a cigarette in her hand and remove the swirl thingies from next to her face and make it smoke from the cigarette it will look nice....blahhh i'm to lazy to open up photo shop. Hey I'm currently working on good guys and bad guys for a children's math book( i think). The client wanted to see ethnic characters. It was really fun and she (Adrienne..gotta give a shout out)was a blast to work with. The good guy Vida will either have her division sign on her buckle or somewhere else. She has not decided yet. I gave her the line art also so maybe it could be coloring pages for the kids.

Still figuring out flash. Better sooner rather than later.

TONIGHT WE DRAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!---FOLLOW IF YOU DARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's still A work in progress. Haven't had time to do anything at all. Recent family news has taken alot away from me, emotionally and physically.
The Story-
This princess of gold walks through the forest turning stuff into gold for the travelers lost at night, The light from the stars and the moon bounces off the gold to guide them out to where they want to go. (apples and pine cones ect. acts like lanterns ...whateva..) She Plugs her headphones into the earth to hear the cries for help within the forest and to help her forest family with anything they need.

Side note.... She should of been barefoot. Nakedness may represent her oneness with the forest, as for everything in the forest is bare also. Or she likes to be naked. Who knows....(p.s. i didn't want to design any clothes. I simply couldn't think of any)

Can't wait to finish...my digital painting skills suck....I can do anything traditionally but digitally...hmmm...every challenge on this site (TONIGHT WE DRAW) will be dedicated to getting better at digital painting. I made up my mind........

I found time to get my idea out on something Thank goodness i found some breathing time. If you can't see it, She is in the middle of a tree that is turning into gold as well as the apples on the ground. My idea was the whole golden apple thingie-ma-bob of a story, So she is the goddess of the golden apples. Don't ask me why she has headphones on. Maybe to hear the whispers from the earth like those stethoscopes doctors wear... that cold miserable plate they put on your chest(sigh i hate those things)Whateva......anyway i'm trying to catch up with all of the ideas posted on the tonight we draw Forum!!!

Hey,
Sorry for not posting anything for a while. But here goes nothing. Recently (when i say that i mean yesterday haha) i was asked to illustrate a children book but before i do i must submit a quick sample . He asked this of other artists too... I really hope that i get picked. Here is the sample i sent him and some extra designs. I did a really quick job. I really hope he likes it!!!!!!! Let's keep our fingers crossed,

Thesis Has Come To A Close
(finally)

Sorry guys i know it's been like forever since my last post. I promise it won't happen again!

My journey with thesis is now over but with a few minor tweaks i have to make to it. This has been a very tiring journey. I realized i make a good designer over animator. I realized that i really did not know how to manage my time (hehe but i'm learning). But even with that being said i had a lot of fun. There isn't much animation (hard to do with full time work and school) but i did my best. Here are some scenes from my film. When my school shows the film i will post the film up to blog spot. Now that thesis is done it's off to find work , do more films and have fun with the rest of my life.

New Thesis New Start

Hey sorry guys i know i haven't been posting in well..... a pretty long time but what can you do when life catches up to you. I've changed my thesis idea. The other one was cool but it would of been 6 minutes long. Haha i won't have enough time or to even make it visually outstanding so i decided to go with an idea i had for a pretty long time. This film will be 2 and 1/2 minutes. That way i already have a concrete story now i just need to make it look awesome. I hope you guys like the designs i made for it. It is called " The Tale Of Adel'e". I'll talk about what it's about another time. I'll keep you posted with more art soon.

This one here under this sentence is my poster and post card design that i will be handing out during the Dusty's Film Festival hopefully. I'll post the animatic and more artwork soon. I promise!!! Hope d ya liked it!

These are clips for my animation that i was suppose to complete this semester. Sorry guys i won't be able to finish and i have to focus now on my Senior thesis film. I guess i won't be able to work on it again until after i graduate. At least i will be a better animator by then and can really work these characters. This was my first time using Photoshop for animation or really using it at all. I was just trying to prep for my thesis. Photoshop is a lot of fun.

Hey every one!. Right now I'm working on a 1 minute film for my animation class. I'm just learning how to color in photoshop. I never really liked using the computer to draw or color but as i get more acquainted with this brain in a box i realized, it's freakin awesome. Though i am not that great at all in photoshop i strive to get better.

SWEET NECTAR

Sweet Nectar is the name of the film that i am working on right now. Two children are in a school play that goes wrong when a girl "NINA" in a bumble bee suit tries to kiss a boy "JARED" in a flower suit. Not only is Jared angry that he's a daisy in tights, now he has this girl trying to kiss him. He tries to run away but fails. When i finish the film i will post it. I have to get this thing done in 5 days. I was just told i was nominated for a senior thesis grant but i can't get it unless i have a finished, good quality film to show them. All i can say is thanks for telling me at the last minute lol. I think i am going to change Nina's hair color, her hair color is to close to the color of the background. uhhh more work haha.

DAN HASKETT

For this Past week 03/09/09- 03/12/09 us School Of Visual Arts students have had one of the most wonderful experiences that will last us for the rest of our lives. Dan Haskett an amazing animator and amazing character designer, talked to us about Character Design and really stressed having fun with animation and character design. He said " If your not having fun doing it than don't do it..what's the point, if your not happy it will show in your work, so just have fun" I must admit and Dan knows this about me, I stress everything out because i want to be great now. He told me that when he was younger he used to say that "these are not just cartoons!" but he realized later that "they are just cartoons"haha. He told the class that he used to say " I aspire to get that good. I'm going to work hard and get that good." To think that i was telling myself the opposite. "I want to be great now!!!! i want to be amazing now." I was going about this thing wrong way. After talking to Dan and his wife Karen, I feel as If i woke up from a dream with a new outlook on life. I no longer feel as if i have to work soo hard that i pop a vessel. I realized where the stress was coming from. It's my family. I love my family but they are expecting me to be great and i feel as if i have to be great to help my family. But i realized it's not about my family. It's about me. It's too much of a burden to keep worrying about them. I just have to keep in mind that i have to do this for me. Here' s some of Dan Haskett's work. Amaze your eyes!!!!!!!!

Class work

I wish that he could of stayed longer .Yunno when it's the last day of your vacation and you know you have to go back to the real world. That's how it felt for like the whole class. Not only is both Karen and Dan the most sweetest people you would ever meet but they are incredibly smart and insightful. Karen reminds me of Philicia Rashadd (Bill Cosby's wife on the Cosby show) She is ....aww man you gotta meet her. But yeahhhhh i got side tracked here is my work.

One the First day he said to design a character that was special to you. On the last day he said to redesign the character.I always wanted to be a space cadet but i never had the chance so this is how i viewed a space cadet in my imagination.

THE AGING PROCESS

He also taught us how to age a character. I had a hard time making women in their 50's and older. He told me the less lines for older people the better. And boy was he right. He also demonstrated how to age a character by aging Ariel. She looked amazing and no matter how old or young she looked she always looked like Ariel and her eyes told a story. He told use to use the face to tell a story. One of the most greatest advice I've heard. I would show you guys all the Disney pictures but i don't want the mouse coming after me. haha Dan's is the last one. The one that's so obvious that he did it and you could animate in a heart beat.

CHARACTER CONSTRUCTION

We talked about how to construct characters and he had us all draw mickey mouse. At first i thought. Mickey mouse. He can't be that hard. But i soon found out. He is actually pretty damn hard to draw on model. Especially without reference on the spot. What amazes me is that Dan drew him an hour before for all of us to see, and i still forgot how he looked. I drew the most ugliest thing in the world. I was happy to find that every single person in the class just could not draw him. There were some close ones but it was never mickey. Dan drew mickey and told use it's all about construction. He did not only draw MICKEY with the same principles but then drew BUGS BUNNY, BELLE, BART SIMPSON, MR. MAGOO and etc. These all had the same principles as mickey. I don't know if it was that easy to begin with when you know what your doing or because every piece of paper Dan touches is gold, or maybe a combo of both but i learned so much at the moment. A serious "AHH HA!" hit me.

FEAR AND EXPERIENCE

He talked to us about the fear that some artist have and alot of animators have low self esteem. I have low self esteem when it comes to my work. I think all of us new comers ( well some of the ones i know) got it . Some animators tend to rip each others self esteem alot ( or see it as competition. I'm different. I rip up my own art work to build up others self esteem. I realize that's stupid. We need to work together. This is becoming ridiculous. It's so not right at all.

He also talked about how some male animators are deathly afraid of drawing women. Well I'm a female I'm not afraid of drawing males i just don't do it that often. I find children and women more fun to draw. I also don't approach caricaturing animals. I'm afraid. I love to paint animals but you tell me to make a cartoon dog i freeze up. The greatest thing about an animator and all artist is the challenge. You have to defeat your fears. This guy David Coleman (is amazing at drawing animals. I met him at NY COMIC CON 09 he's sweet but he looked extremely tired. I hope he feels better. I got all his books so far and I'm glad he signed one and drew this cool camel. He might even teach at SVA i hope he does, we really need it. I am making a vow to be more DYNAMIC. I'm going to think the way Dan thinks. He told us " I think of myself as a cartoonist before and animator" and you now what. That's a great way to think. I mean you don't have to think that way ( to each his/her own) but i find think this way helps me alot. It allows to be more outgoing with art. This is David Coleman's Work. Buy His Books!!! You'll learn alot!

LAYOUT AND DESIGN

He talked to use about alot of stuff. He showed us amazing backgrounds and said layout are just as important and the actual animation. It creates mood. He also showed us this wicked Johnny Quest documentary. Just put in Quest or Johnny Quest in you tube and you will find it. It's amazing and i can't believe that i forgot how beautiful the show was. Man that was some good stuff.

ETHNICITY

Dan also stressed being able to draw different races. For some surprising reason not many people are able to do this. I say just look around you. Especially in NYC. There are soo many people around. Not only look around but experience other peoples culture. You'll learn soo much about each other and yourselves.

I'm glad, I met Dan and Karen in my freshman year of college and just talking to him and showing him my work, i improved a hell of alot. I am very grateful that he taught us and is giving back. Thanks DAN AND KAREN !!!!!!
